Add Kai to your AI app, step by step.

Kai isn't in anybody's connector directory yet, so each app below needs you to add it by hand, as a custom connector. It takes about a minute: no API key, nothing to install. Connect your inbox, calendar and meetings to Kai first, that's what it reaches into.

In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
Paste the URL and click Connect. Leave the OAuth client ID and secret fields empty, Kai registers itself.
Approve it once on Kai's own screen. Sign in to Kai first if you aren't already.
In any chat, open the + menu, hover Connectors, and switch Kai on.

Worth knowingAdd it on the web or on desktop. The phone apps have no add-by-URL field, but the connector shows up there once it exists. On the free plan you get one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise, only an Owner can add it.

Switch developer mode on first, in Settings, under Security and login. It's labelled elevated risk, and nothing you do after this works until it's on.
Open Plugins in the left menu, then click the round + beside the search box. Custom connectors live under Plugins now, whatever the help centre still calls them.
Paste the URL, name it Kai, choose OAuth, and tick I understand and want to continue. Create stays greyed out until you tick it.
Create hands you straight to Sign in with Kai. Approve it on Kai's own screen, in the tab that opens.
Start a fresh chat and open with the word calendar, email, meetings or task.

Worth knowingDeveloper mode can come back off on its own, and when it does the connector still says Connected, the sign-in still works, and every request comes back FORBIDDEN. If Kai stops answering, check that switch before anything else. The quick tell is the + button on the Plugins page: it's only there while developer mode is on. ChatGPT also hands a single conversation about ten of Kai's tools, picked from what you open with, so ask about your email in a new chat rather than the one where you asked about your calendar. Connecting and reading are tested on a free account; sending and editing from one are not.

On a computer at gemini.google.com, open the left menu, then Settings and help, then Connected apps.
Under Custom apps for Spark, click Add a custom app.
Paste the URL and click Next.
Finish the Kai sign-in on the approval screen.

Worth knowingGoogle shipped this on 2026-06-30 and the eligibility list is long: 18 or over, physically in the United States, on a personal Google account with AI Pro or Ultra, with Keep Activity on and the interface in English. The tools then live inside Spark only, so a subscriber who never opens Spark never sees them. The phone can use a connected app, it cannot add one.

Start Claude Code, type /mcp, pick kai, and choose Authenticate. From a plain shell, claude mcp login kai does the same thing.
Approve it once on Kai's own screen. Over SSH, add --no-browser to get a URL you can paste.
Check it with claude mcp list. You want kai, Connected.

Worth knowingDrop --scope user to add Kai to the current project only. This is the one client we have connected end to end, on 2026-07-27, with all 27 Kai tools live in the session. It also runs from your own machine rather than Anthropic's cloud. A paid Claude plan, an Anthropic Console key, Bedrock, Vertex or Foundry billing all qualify.

Worth knowingCursor has an open bug where the sign-in window never opens for remote connectors like this one. Cursor confirmed it in May 2026 and people were still reporting it in July. If nothing happens when you switch Kai on, that's the bug, not your config. Cursor on the web and on iOS needs a second add at cursor.com/agents.

Open the Command Palette and run MCP: Add Server.
Choose HTTP, paste the URL, name the server kai, then pick Global or Workspace.
Accept the trust prompt and finish the Kai sign-in in your browser.
In Copilot Chat, switch the mode picker to Agent, click the Tools icon, and tick the Kai tools.

Worth knowingKai's tools only work in Agent mode, not Ask or Edit. On a Copilot Business or Enterprise seat the MCP policy is off by default and an owner has to switch it on. Individual plans aren't governed by that policy.

The Kai MCP, answered

The honest fine print.

MCP is a shared standard that lets AI apps like Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini use outside tools, the way Bluetooth lets any headphone talk to any phone. Kai's connector is how those apps reach your calendar, email, tasks and meeting notes through your Kai account.

Because Kai isn't listed in the connector directories those apps ship with. Every app on this page has a field where you paste your own server URL, and that's the one we use. It costs you an extra minute of setup, and it means you can connect Kai today instead of waiting on a directory listing.

No. The Kai connector is free with your Kai account. Kai itself is a paid product after the trial. One of them charges for the feature that lets you add a connector at all, which is a separate bill from a separate company: Gemini wants AI Pro or Ultra. Claude and ChatGPT both take Kai on their free plans.

In the Claude app, yes. You add the connector once on claude.ai and it shows up in the Claude iOS and Android apps. Tap the mic, say what you need, hit send.

Yes, on any plan including the free one, once you switch developer mode on in Settings, under Security and login. That switch is the whole trick: with it off, Kai still installs and still signs in and still shows as connected, and then every request comes back FORBIDDEN with nothing naming the cause. We've connected Kai and read a calendar from a free account. Sending mail or moving events from one is untested, so we're not claiming it yet.

Yes, since Google shipped custom MCP apps on 2026-06-30, and the eligibility list is long: 18 or over, physically in the United States, on a personal Google account with AI Pro or Ultra, with Keep Activity on and the interface in English. The tools then live inside Gemini Spark. Google Antigravity, which replaced the Gemini CLI, takes the same URL on a free tier with no US requirement.

Not today. Perplexity has a custom connector form, but its sign-in step rejects the standard response Kai's server returns, so the connection never completes. The fix is on our side and it's on the list. Perplexity's Comet assistant is a separate no: it only works with Perplexity's own catalogue.

Nothing happens unprompted. Kai reads when you ask, and anything that leaves your account or cannot be undone, like sending an email, forwarding one, or deleting an event, waits for your explicit word in the chat.

One approval, for your whole Kai account, on Kai's own screen. We say that plainly because it is also why every recipe works after a single approval. The connection uses short-lived tokens, and you never paste a password or an API key into the assistant.

Ask the assistant to describe the error in full, copy what it says, and send it to us. That's genuinely the fastest route today: the connector has no error reporting of its own yet, so the assistant's own account of what failed is the most useful thing you can hand us.
