Live, on-device transcript
Whisper transcribes your meeting right in the browser, word by word, as it happens. Nothing is uploaded, your audio never leaves your machine.
Most meeting extensions ask for a lot. Kai asks for nothing.
No signup wall, no audio leaving your laptop, no awkward bot in the participant list. And it's free.
- Make an account before you can record
- Streams your audio to their servers
- Drops a bot into the call as an extra guest
- Best features locked behind a paywall
- One more web app to log into
- No account, ever. There's no server to log into
- 100% on-device. Your audio never leaves your machine
- No bot. It captures the tab audio directly
- Everything's free
- Lives in your toolbar, one shortcut away
Installed in a minute. One shortcut after that.
Install and pin it
One click from the Chrome Web Store. Pin Kai to your toolbar so it's there for every call.
Press the shortcut
Cmd+Shift+K on Mac, Ctrl+Shift+K on Windows, and the transcript builds live as the meeting runs.
Get notes when it ends
Stop the recording and you get a clean summary plus an action-items list, ready to copy or email.
And the notes? Already waiting when you hang up.
Built for meetings in the browser
If a meeting plays in a browser tab, Kai can record it. On the native desktop Zoom or Teams apps, the full Kai app has you covered. English in v1, with French, Spanish, and German on the roadmap.

Everything I hear stays on this laptop. There's no server to send it to.
There is no server. It all stays on your device.
This is the 100% local surface for Kai. Your audio, transcript, and summary are processed and stored on your device only.
- Audio is captured inside the extension and never sent anywhere.
- Transcripts are stored in your browser, on your machine.
- The summary is generated by a local model in your browser.
- A recording indicator is visible the whole time a mic or tab-audio stream is open. No stealth recording, ever.

The basics, answered
Is Kai for Chrome really free?
Yes. The extension is free, with no account and no trial. The full Kai assistant (email, calendar, tasks) is a separate, paid product.
Does my audio get uploaded anywhere?
No. Transcription and summarization run on your device. Your audio never leaves your computer.
Do I need a Kai account?
No. The extension works with no login. There's no server behind it, so there's nothing to sign into.
Does it put a bot in my meeting?
No. Kai captures the tab audio directly. No extra participant is added and nobody is notified that Kai is recording.
Which meeting apps work?
Google Meet, Zoom's web client, and Microsoft Teams on the web. The native desktop Zoom and Teams apps aren't supported in v1, use the browser version or the full Kai app.
What languages are supported?
English in v1. French, Spanish, and German are on the roadmap.
How do I update it?
Chrome updates extensions automatically. Check the What's new section above for the latest version and what changed.

Free, on-device, no account. Add Kai to Chrome and your next call takes its own notes.
